Focus of the special number:

This special number treats the complex relationship between the hate speech, democratic values and the impact of disinformation in youth in the contemporary societies. In an increasingly digital world, these phenomena threaten the democratic stability, polarize the societies and impact youth’s mental welfare-key actors in the formation of the upcoming discourses.

Objectives:

  • Analysis of the resources and spread of the hate speech and disinformation.
  • Investigation of their impact in the political involvement and trust in the democratic institutions.
  • Understanding of the perceptions and the engagement of youth towards these challenges.
  • Proposal of the implementing measures for teachers, politicians and civic society to strengthen the resistance towards the harmful narratives and to promote the all-inclusive and democratic commitment.
