University “Fehmi Agani” in Gjakova and its partners successfully organized the International Scientific Conference titled “Toward an Intelligent Society: Challenges and Opportunities”

Gjakova, May 22–23, 2026

The Faculty of Social Sciences, within the framework of the “Fehmi Agani” University in Gjakova, in cooperation with the Albanian Institute of Sociology (AIS) and other local and international partners, successfully organized the International Scientific Conference entitled “Towards an Intelligent Society: Challenges and Opportunities.”

The conference brought together in Gjakova researchers, university professors, scholars, professionals, and experts from many countries around the world, creating an important platform for the exchange of ideas, experiences, and scientific findings in various fields of social sciences and humanities.

Within the framework of the conference, more than 230 scientific presentations were delivered, with the participation of over 330 authors and co-authors, delegates, and researchers from at least 27 countries worldwide. The program included 16 thematic and special sessions, as well as interdisciplinary academic discussions.

The Rector of “Fehmi Agani” University in Gjakova, Prof. Ass. Dr. Drilon Bunjaku emphasized that this conference represents an important platform where new academic and professional connections are established, as well as where new generations are shaped to contribute to the society of the future. Meanwhile, the Rector of “Luigj Gurakuqi” University in Shkodër, Tonin Gjuraj, stated that the conference addresses the most important developments of contemporary society and the challenges it is facing today.

Within the framework of the conference, the following speakers also contributed: Dr. Jola Kepi – Executive Director of the School Leadership Institute; Mr. Jacques Marion from France – President of the Universal Peace Federation for Europe and the Middle East; Prof. Dr. Robert Çitozi, speaking on behalf of the Academy of Sciences of Albania; Ms. Jonida Lamaj – representative of the Albanian-American Development Foundation, who presented the institution’s engagement in the fields of science, education, and culture; and Prof. Alma Shehu – Vice-Rector for Teaching, Student Affairs, and Scientific Research at “Haxhi Zeka” University in Peja.

 

Meanwhile, Prof. Besim Gollopeni, in his capacity as coordinator of partner institutions and conference organizers, emphasized that the conference holds special significance in the context of the time in which contemporary society is living. Likewise, Prof. Dr. Lekë Sokoli, the initiator of the conference, highlighted the importance of academic cooperation and the role this conference plays in advancing science and international dialogue.

The topics addressed during the conference focused on contemporary developments of intelligent society, digital transformation, education, social policies, artificial intelligence, social well-being, global challenges, and the impact of technology on social life.

At the closing of the conference, special awards were also presented. The Excellence Award was given to the students at University “Luigj Gurakuqi” in Shkodër, while the Universal Peace Federation awarded the “Ambassador for Peace” distinction to Dr. Jola Kepi, Ms. Jonida Lamaj, and university professor and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Ass. Dr. Ferdi Kamberi, in recognition of their contribution to the promotion of knowledge, dialogue, and the values of peace in society.
