Within the framework of the NanoKos project “Enhancing Research Capacities in Kosovo,” funded by the European Union, the University “Fehmi Agani” has initiated the implementation of the research project titled “External and Internal Assessment of Volatile Organic Compounds in the Airspace of Pristina – A Comparative Study with Carbon Nanoadsorbents and Health Risk Evaluation.”This project represents an important research effort aimed at analyzing air pollution in the Pristina region, with a particular focus on volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and their potential impact on public health. The project seeks to provide a scientific comparison between traditional measurement methods and the use of carbon nanoadsorbents, an emerging technology that offers high efficiency in capturing and analyzing organic particles at the nanoscale.

Through this study, the following activities will be carried out:

• Field measurements to identify hazardous compounds in the urban air of Pristina;
• Laboratory analyses to determine human exposure levels to organic pollutants;
• Health risk assessments, taking into account the most vulnerable population groups;
• Promotion of an interdisciplinary approach that bridges environmental research, nanotoxicology, and medical science.

This project contributes to the priority research areas of Environmental Nanotoxicology and Medical Research, helping strengthen scientific capacities for urban pollution monitoring and public health protection in Kosovo.
