A lecture on Breast Cancer awareness was held at the Faculty of Medicine
On October 16, 2024, in the premises of the Faculty of Medicine, under the organization of the UFAGJ Students’ Parliament, in honour of the pink month for breast cancer, a lecture was held by the Prof. Asoc. Dr. Antigona Ukëhaxhaj.
In this organization participated a group of women by the Association ‘’living is worth it’’, the dean Prof.Dr. Haxhi Kamberi, professors of the Faculty of Medicine, Vice-rector for Teaching Affairs Prof. Ass. Dafinë Kaçuqi, vice-dean for Teaching and Student Affairs in the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Ass.Dr. Hasime Terziqi, students of the Faculty of Medicine, and also students from the study program Care and Social Welfare.
The meeting was opened by Prof. Dr. Haxhi Kamberi, who emphasized the role and importance of marking this day for the fact that this challenge is touching each day more females in Kosovo, including the minor ones, and unfortunately, if the diagnosis happens later, it results with high fatality.
The word of speech was then offered to the head of the association ‘’Living is worth it’’, who narrated the experience and the challenges that women face during the sickness and their need for a greater institutional support and psycho-emotional support from family and society.
An awareness lecture on breast cancer by students’ request was held by Professor Antigona Ukëhaxhaj, where she emphasized the role of prevention and self-control, regular visits at the doctor, and counseling on the lifestyle, including here, nutrition and physical activity of those touched by the sickness. From the data obtained by the Oncology Clinic, she reported on the number of those touched by breast cancer in Kosovo for the year 2022.
Afterwards, those present made a range of questions for the panellists. With the association of women affected by cancer in the Municipality of Gjakova, the management of the Faculty of Medicine pledged that there will be collaborations and meetings in the future.
The students thanked the management for their support in the initiatives which transmit strong messages to the population, when in one of the days of the week, them along with the staff will be in the community spreading leaflets for women in Gjakova.
